Brief
Working with the an oversees client to create a luxurious and comfortable space for his guests whilst they visit London.
The apartment is in a prime location and the owner wanted the design to reflect the high-end London lifestyle whilst using sustainable solutions.
His primary goal was to be a role model for showing that you can have luxury design whilst being kind to our planet at the same time.
Challenges
Gaging the client's design preferences and requirements whilst balancing a time difference and consulting through video conferencing platforms.
Generating a list of suppliers and contractors who have a respect and understanding for being sustainable. This is important to both us and the client so a lot of research is needed to eliminate suppliers who 'greenwash'.
Working towards a tight schedule. The owner wanted the apartment ready to live in within 4 months which, for a property of this size, is a challenge. Especially when you're managing contractors, vendors and suppliers.
Design process
We started the project by creating a design concept that reflected the client's preference for a high-end, luxurious feel. The concept included a neutral colour palette with pops of bold colours and a mix of textures and finishes.
The focus was on creating a warm and inviting space for guests to relax in after a long day of meetings and sightseeing. This was achieved by incorporating plush fabrics, comfortable furniture, and soft lighting.
Our team also took into consideration the practical aspects of the apartment. The owner wanted the space to be easy to maintain, so we used durable materials that were (at the same time) functional, sustainable and aesthetically pleasing.
Key Design Elements
Neutral colour palette - The use of neutral colours such as beige, brown, cream, and grey created a calming atmosphere in the apartment.
Pops of bold colours - The addition of bold colours such as blue, yellow, and red used in very carefully selected positions such us on wall art, on a small hallway, or the bathroom, providing a pop of vibrancy and added interest to the space.
Mix of textures and finishes - The combination of different textures such as velvet, silk, and leather added depth and richness to the design.
Comfortable furniture - The selection of comfortable furniture such as plush sofas, cozy armchairs, and soft bedding ensured that guests felt at home during their stay.
Soft lighting - The use of soft lighting, including floor lamps and table lamps, created a warm and inviting ambiance in the apartment.
Conclusion:
The interior design project for the guest apartment in London was a success. We were able to create a luxurious and comfortable space that met the client's design preferences and practical requirements. The space is now ready for guests to enjoy during their stay in London.
